Is a shorter school week better?

In an effort to decrease student absences and increase learning time, a Utah school district adopted a four-day school week. Extracurricular activities like athletics are now limited to Thursday nights, Fridays and Saturdays. The Deseret News has the story.

The idea remains in its trial period, but students, teachers, parents and administrators have all expressed support for the change.

What do you think about the four-day school week? Should we try it in Oklahoma? Sound off in the comments section.

Our children already do not compare well with those of other nations. We can not seriously be thinking they need less time in school!!! The only way to have a 4 day week is to have school all year long. We need to increase the education our children receive, not make it less effective.

i think it is a good idea to have a shorter week and athletics on the 3 day weekend, we'd be more likely to concentrate during those 4 days,we already have a state that pushes so hard for education with the oklahoma promise i think it's good for children to have an extra day off

i also agree with the second comment and 4 day school and oklahoma kids who are younger can have and older babysitter or have there older brother or sister take of them or take them to a daycare if there old enough just leave them home by themselves I think its a perfect idea i mean kids are getting streesed out kids ar being bullied some are getting deprssed of it now some kids like it but think of the other kids and some of the kids are emo some reasons they are is because there depprsed of school that just hate it besides if your adults think of the energy and fuel cuts the econmy might just get a good boost so i think they should have 4 day school and kids can stay home with there family when they come home from work itll make most of the kids happy to be with there family once in a while besides summer break sometimes kids and teens alike need to be with there family more often so yes i think its a good idea for four day schools in Oklahoma maybe everywhere
