Cell Phone Usage

Cell phone usage while operating a motor vehicle has been banned in six states and legislation has been proposed to do the same in 40 more. Oklahoma has yet to pass any such law but what do you think? Should Oklahoma pass a law banning cell phone use while driving?

one thing is for sure. it will not hurt anything. There are enough distractions already on the hwy. People drive carelessly and we don't need another distraction that will increase more accidents and raise insurance rates. We could possibly drive with a headset or bluetooth in....maybe. I am all for banning cell phone use in cars.

I think this is a violation of personal freedom and will not make the roads any safer. The people that get in accidents are bad drivers, they will find another distraction. I don't want cops pulling someone over when they get an important phone call.

It is time to ban cell phones in cars! I am tired of being cut off by someone dialing or sending a message instead of driving. My freedom is threatened when my safety is threatened by drivers on cell phones!

I don't think they should ban cell phone use while driving. I agree that people who can't drive while on the cell phone are bad drivers anyhow and will find another distraction. This IS a violation of personal freedom. Would you like me to stop in the left hand lane of Memorial when I get an important phone call? Because that's how little time you have to answer one of those calls.

I understand that you can call people back, but if you've been waiting for the call....

What if it's your kid calling?
What if it's an emergency?

Your freedom is not threatened by someone dialing their cell phone. If they aren't paying attention to the road, your life is in danger! I NEVER dial when there are other cars around. NEVER! That is irresponsible.

However, I have been going down a two lane road and observed the driver coming in the other lane toward me, bending down picking something up off the floor on the passenger side! That makes me angry. That is irresponsible. Wait until I'm not around to do that! The time to rummage around in your car or make a phone call is not when you are in the midst of other drivers. It is when there are no other cars around you.

If you are one of those drivers that can't wait, YOU are the one making it bad for the rest of us.

California recently passed a law banning cell use for teenagers. It is based on research which shows a significant difference in teen cell-related accident rates. Let's do it!
